HI LO HOUSE

Kalispell Residential Architect - Whitefish Residential Architect - Portland Residential Architect

A single family home located just outside of Bigfork, MT near a meandering river. While the home is not located in a flood plain, the site is adjacent to one. Given this site condition, one of the client’s requests was to have the main volume of the house sit off the ground. This move allowed for the design to take better advantage of surrounding views and creates a treehouse type feel to the home.

HI LO HOUSE

New build home - Bigfork, Montana. 2,500 sqft.

A single family home located just outside of Bigfork, MT near a meandering river. While the home is not located in a flood plain, the site is adjacent to one. Given this site condition, one of the client’s requests was to have the main volume of the house sit off the ground. This move allowed for the design to take better advantage of surrounding views and creates a tree house type feel to the home. The main volume of the home is clad in a matte black standing seam metal and consists of two intersecting gables that serve to frame views of the nearby mountains and the adjacent forest. The interior of this volume is clad in wood from a local mill and gives the home a warm and cozy feeling. The lower base volume of the home is clad in plaster to give it a solid and grounded feel. This portion of the home houses the more utilitarian functions of the project. The raising up of the main volume of the home creates a unique space underneath the home where the owners can be sheltered from the rain and snow, but still feel like they are outside experiencing the site.
